~ How to catch a Leprechaun! ~

This project was really fun as the best part was working on something with both my daughter AND granddaughter.  Tacoah's kindergarden assignment for Friday was to make a leprechaun trap.  So we pondered together the things that might entice a leprechaun and decided that GOLD was a biggie!  Now we know that once we CATCH one, we can't touch him.  Otherwise, all his magic might disappear and that gold won't do him any good!  So here's the trap.

We started with one of Tacoah's old shoe boxes and covered it with green paper and washi tape (don't you just love that stuff???).  I cut a 1/4" diameter wooden dowel to about 4 inches and notched one end.  We added a little leprechaun (Simply Charmed), rainbow (Noah's ABC) and pot of gold, so they will know they are in the right neighborhood.  I remembered these cuts from a project that Michele at Scrap-n-Dance did a few weeks ago.  I'm not sure she posted it on her blog, but her blog is fabulous anyway.  Check it out!

A few little shamrocks (from Paper Doll Dress Up)  in green glitter paper cut at 2" for the sides.  We added a button and some green bakers twine.

We hinged the back of the box lid with some Raffia and added another little friend to the back of the box.

A 4" shamrock for the top along with the bait (Free Gold - Pooh Font at 1") and gold coins (Craft Room Basics at 1.25").  You think it will work?

And finally, the BAIT!  Now you just KNEW that confetti paper that our Circle carts came in (for those of you who are Cricut Circle members) would be repurposed for a noble cause some day!

Just LOOK at all that GOLD would ya??  We are sure to catch at least ONE Leprechaun.  This project took us two evenings, so we darn well better.  Thanks for stopping  by and Tacoah thanks you too!

  3. Love it! Very creative. I hope with all the effort, several leprechauns get greedy for all that gold.
