About Me

I am wife to my wonderful husband, mother to two adult children and Nana to one special granddaughter. I also share my heart and my home with several furbabies. Being creative doesn't come easily to me, but I love to try.

~Birthday & Graduation Cards

Summers are always full of birthdays and graduations.  My mother in law will turn 91 on the 27th, so I made these two cards.  The first is from David and me and came straight off of Creative Cards.  I added a few little pearl embellishments.  Easy peasy.  The second one is from the kids and I used a cut from Kate's ABC.  The paper for both was from MME Happy Day.

Next up is a graduation card I made for my hairdresser.  She just completed a two year course of studies to obtain her medical assistant certification.  Fortunately (for me), she will still work part time as a hairdresser.  That's good because I don't have the stamina to find a new one.  Did that 3 years ago and was not fun.  I used a cut from Wrap It Up on this one and the paper is TC You are My Happy.

~Valentine Card in a Box + others

These were the rest of my Valentine's for this year.

The first one is a card in a box for my mother-in-law.  My Circle MB friends had a Valentine blog hop a couple of weeks ago and TiffysMom posted one for her project.  I thought this was super cool and had to try one, so here is my card in the box.  The butterfly came from Michael's, but the rest of the hearts were cut from Artiste and Hannah Montana.  You can find a very good tutorial for these boxes at SereneStamper.com.

Next we have a Hello Kitty card with an extra flair button and some yummy conversation candy for Tacoah.

And finally, for the love of my life, a card that follows the same basic sketch as the previous post (the one for my surrogate mom).  In this case though, instead of a vintage valentine, I used a card from Project Life. The paper is from a Crate Paper 6x6 called Love Notes.   I also used a piece of embossed foil for the heart.

~Valentine Card

For a very dear friend.  More like a surrogate Mom.  I used a lot of stuff from my stash and even something that would have gone into the trash!  The silver heart layered underneath the felt heart is actually the inside cover from a can of mixed nuts!  Already embossed!  How cool is that!!!

I found the vintage valentine online and just thought it was adorable.  I don't know about you, but the store bought valentine's today are pretty strange.  Minions are cute, but as valentines??  lol
Anyway, I punched the silver heart and then cut a red felt heart a little smaller and hand stitched with white embroidery thread.  Underneath is a piece of red foil embossed with swiss dots.  The base paper comes from Crate Paper Love Notes.  I cut the card base at 6" from Creative Cards.

~Daughter's Birthday

Time just keeps on trudging by even when you don't want it to.  Today my daughter Michelle turns 34.  Her birthday's are really starting to make me feel old.  ;-)  I did have her when I was quite young, but still.....

She said to me last night, "I guess you haven't started working on my card yet.".   eeekkkk!  So now they EXPECT a handmade card.  January is always a busy month for me at work and I just recently finished Christmas cards AND a December Daily.  I hadn't had time to catch my breath and consider what I would do for her birthday card.

So I got adventurous and pulled down a cart I've not used yet and CHEATED.  Haha!  Not really, but Creative Cards gives you basic card that you can bling up and really make your own without having to think about measurements and welding stuff together, etc.

I loved this color combination of purples and soft greens.  I cut the card at 6".   I embossed flourishes on the butterflies and popped them from the page.  I added machine stitching and inks.  On the inside, I glittered another butterfly and used my cuttlebug on some vellum.  I really like the way this turned out and it really WAS minimal effort.  Michelle loved it too and that's what really counts!

Now who will make MY birthday card in two weeks??????
